Stadium Travel and Subjective Well-Being of Football Spectators

In the context of leisure travel in sport, United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals to promote public health and combat climate change may be addressed simultaneously. This study investigates football spectators’ carbon footprint that is generated from traveling stadium. It also examines effects stadium everyday pro-environmental behavior on subjective well-being. The uses data were gathered an online survey Germany 2021 (n = 1605). For a detailed assessment, spectators allowed indicate multiple transportation means if they switched them during their journey. Seemingly unrelated regression models calculated examine effect (i.e., travel) recycling, consumption, energy-saving life satisfaction happiness. Traveling home game caused average 7.79 kg CO2-e per spectator, or 190.4 tons for all spectators. Regression results showed sustainable consumption increased both well-being measures while recycling only positively contributed Stadium no significant effect. These findings implicate achieving development goals can go hand some contexts behavior, but not dimensions.
